The Tower, how She leans.

July 31, 2011
On our way home from Camp Darby, we visited Pisa and the Field of Miracles. On our walk to the tower, we were taken over by a few Chinese tourists who just started snapping pictures of the boys and politely moved me to the side so they could stand behind the stroller for their own photo op. This took about 5 minutes because all the women wanted their own pictures and then as a group they wanted a few shots too--for those I became the umbrella holder like the girl in the middle of the photo below.
The bell tower is nearly 200 feet tall and 55 feet wide, weighs 14,000 tons and leans at a 5-degree angle (15 feet off the vertical axis). It was built over two centuries by at least three different architects, with each successive man trying to correct the leaning problem.
The Field of Miracles consists of the Baptistry, the Cathedral, and the Leaning Tower on a beautiful spot of grass.
The boys crawled all over a grassy area near the tower. It was great for them to stretch their legs and practice cruising alongside the stroller or the roped areas. Notice that Eli is being "crushed" by the tower in the picture below.
