Ciao Italia

Week one went by very quickly. After being greeted by our friends at the terminal, we enjoyed a great Italian meal by the Livenza Sacile--a River that runs straight through this town lined with the ancient vacation homes of the Venice elite--Now they are all apartments. The river was used, back in the day, as a transport mechanism for the timber that makes up the piers in Venice.

Jet-Lag took its toll on us for a week. They say it takes 1 day for every hour of change...this is about right--but it is over.

On Saturday, we took a day trip to Venice via train through the beautiful countryside. Lunch was at a little restaraunt off the beaten path--just our type. We showed up and the little man says, "just a minute, I take my little boat to get some fish for you"...as if he had some large fishing boat that that could navigate the canals. So we walked around a little and then noticed he was back. We sat down and realized what he bought us...Octopi. It was good, but had a remarkable similarity to Brisket...or maybe I was just needing some Rudy's.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the streets of Venice...so many people, so much history...too much to see. The best part was taking the water-bus back to the train station. And then we saw two people putting their feet in the water...we hope the rest of their trip was filled with good health.

The base is great...lets just say it is slightly louder than at the Rock. Driving here is absolutely nuts. We both are licensed Italian drivers...so keep your fingers crossed.
