This morning we drove to Montepulciano, another Tuscan town full of beautiful views and quiet streets for wandering. On our way we passed a field of pigs roaming free.
Beautiful views from a panoramic viewpoint.

More views from Montepulciano.
Archways and streets in Montepulciano
The Duomo in Montepulciano. It is unfinished as the city ran out of mone for the facade. The inside is functional but the outside is incomplete--rough stonework waiting for the marble veneer.
The Contucci Cantina: The famous wine for Montepulciano is the Vino Nobile. The Contucci family still lives in the palace. We were able to walk around the 13th century vaults of the basement, which are filled with huge barrels of wine.
For the afternoon, we drove to Pienza. Pienza is set on a crest and surrounded by rolling, green hills. The afternoon was filled with pecorino cheese (a local specialty), wandering the streets, and getting the boys to take a nap! We took away a great snack too--pecorino drizzled with honey served warm with fresh pears--YUM!
We enjoyed a nice dinner on the way home. The boys, despite the late hour, behaved themselves and ate great too!
