We woke up early this morning to make our way to Garmisch--we had to take advantage of Evan's 3-day weekend. It took us about 5 hours--just two stops and a sack lunch helped us make great time. We had beautiful weather as you can see from the pictures below.
We checked into our bed and breakfast, and after careful advice from the proprietor that this day was the best weather all weekend, we boogied ourselves up to the Zugspitze--the highest point in Germany.
On the road to Zugspitze.

We are waiting on the gondola to take us to the top.

Overlooking the mountains from the gondola.

View of Eibsee Lake from the gondola.

It was so clear and we just kept getting higher and higher and higher.

Finally, to the top. The star in the pic is the marker for the highest point in Germany.

We are on the same level of this airplane.

Evan with the beautiful mountains. It's like we could see for miles.

I made a love note in the snow.

I snuck up on Evan. He was at the point where you can cross from Germany to Austria--almost on a cliff. It was
super cold and you can't see it, but there was a small building on his right and when he passed the wall the wind almost blew him over and that's when I snapped the picture.

Pretty much my favorite picture since we've lived overseas. I didn't mention that it was so cold today and tonight on the way home it got down to 18 degrees. Even after wearing 3 layers plus a jacket--it was still more than slightly chilly!

And to make our day even more German, we ate at Gasthof Werdenfelser. This was recommended to us because of the slap-dancing that occurs every night at dinner. These boys, in traditional German attire, dance and slap their knees and feet, jumping up and down to an accordian every few minutes.
It was really funny to watch and even after the third dance we were still sort of awestruck at them.
sooo jealous of the snow!
