Christmas Eve & Christmas Day

December 24th and 25th, 2009

Celebrating the holidays this year was a little different. We usually make it home for at least one day of Hannukah and I have never missed a Christmas in Cuero. So after 3 years of not having a tree because we have not been home--Evan and I ventured to Centercasa (mix of Hobby Lobby/Pier One) and bought a tree and some 220v lights and got busy decorating.

Thanks to my Mom for giving me and my sisters ornaments every year--we had a full tree. Evan and I have ornaments from our honeymoon and a few of the trips we have taken in the past few years, so it was fun to bring them out and remember when we were there.
On Christmas Eve, we joined the Mowry's and had a feast at the Kahl's house. Here is Carynn dolled up in her Christmas best watching a movie.
Dr. Chad having a serious conversation with Ceci. I like how she's grabbing her peas and carrots. She might be afraid that he might take a few off her tray.
Ummm. Peas and carrots. Carynn sneakily brought Ceci the entire bowl later in the evening. What a nice friend.
When the dog came out, Ceci seemed to back herself up under the table. She just kept going further and further and further.
Hello neighbors. The Mowry's--Tony, Hollie, and Ceci. You can't tell but she has on a Santa dress complete with the white fur trim.
Have we lived here 6 months and this is our first pic together? Me and the girls.
First Christmas in Italia. Evan is drinking amarone wine...ummm, amarone.
We wrapped up our time at the Kahl's and made it home in time to skype with the Blackwell family celebrating Christmas Eve lunch in Cuero. So fun to see Pat, Dee, the Housers, the Hedgcoxes, Mom, Dad, Steph, and even CASH who was sleeping peacefully in his kennel.

We made it to midnight Mass in the pouring rain at the church close to our home. Well there is not an early (aka: convenient) service here so the 800 Italians in the area went with us to church. Needless to say, it was pretty to hear them sing but the rows of gel-haired Italians texting on their phone and making eyes at each other in the standing-room only back rows where we were...after 45 minutes we left and the priest had not get given the homily.

Christmas morning Evan and I woke up bright and early, maybe not quite so bright but definitely early. We took breakfast, with other legal office staff, to the gate guards who were practically the only people who had to work on base on Christmas day. The home for a nap before heating up a breakfast casserole to take across the street to the Mowry's for Christmas day brunch.
Hollie with Ceci.
Ceci got a pony from Santa--she was too cute and so excited about it.
We came home after a few hours to catch up with the families via skype. First was the Wintons in NC all wearing their matching Christmas pajamas Mom got us. Then we saw Grandpa, Ross, Janet, Lauren, and Cyvia in Houston while they were having breakfast. Next was Cuero with Mom, Dad, Steph, Jeff, and Cash again to see them open stockings. We took a good nap then woke up and skyped with Momo and Marshall, Ross and Janet again, Elizabeth, Bobby, Jules, and Lili, Chris, Gena, and Clay--so fun to see everyone who we have not seen since we left in July.

We hope you enjoyed your holidays with family and friends!
